Helpful Ways to Convince Your Child to Eat Healthy Foods

July 10th, 2012 Comments off

It is very difficult to deal with children, especially when it comes to food. It is very difficult to discipline them and convince them to eat what is right. Well, if you are parents having difficulty in dealing with your children, then this article might be of great help. It offers some helpful ways on how to convince your child to eat healthy foods:

1. Serve fruits and vegetables every meal – Convincing your children to eat healthy foods require discipline. In doing so, you should always serve what is best for their diet during meals. You should make sure that you serve fruits and vegetable every meal time. Always try to add more and more vegetables not only to their dishes, but to the whole family’s dishes as well. Children need to see someone in the family whom she can follow. If let your child see that you also eat these kinds of foods, then she may be convinced that she should be on a strict diet too. Do not easily give up on your kids. If they say they won’t, then try and try until you reach the right time of convincing them. Just allow plenty of opportunities to get used to the dishes prepared for them.

2. Always have healthy foods available in the fridge – If you want to convince your children to eat healthy foods, then you should make it available for them. You can be creative. Try cutting up some fruits and make it more attractive to them. Try mixing up other fruits and vegetables that can be exciting for their eyes and tastes as well. Children love colors, so better mix some colors of fruits that are great for them. You can cut up some apples into cubes, some mangoes, some pineapples and some oranges. You can also pack some ready to eat vegetables that are in the fridge already. They will find this more convenient, and they may just learn to love eating healthy foods.

3. Do not store soda drinks – As parents, it is very important that you know of the products you store in your fridge. Children always do have easy access on the fridge because they always think of it as food. You better check the fridge and keep away those that are not good for their health. You should store healthy foods and healthy drinks as well. Instead of storing soda drinks, try replacing it with some orange or fruity drinks. These kinds of drinks also contain fibers, which are very beneficial for the children’s health.

It is very difficult to convince your child to eat healthy foods, but this is not impossible. There are so many ways to convince them. Try considering these helpful ways and in no time, you will absolutely convince your child to eat healthy foods.

Best Healthy Foods For Fat Loss, Muscle Gain and Great Health

Best healthy foods: Water

Simply outstanding. My home town is Singapore in the tropics and I realize that our tropical climate makes our water requirements even higher than usual.

Every other beverage is inferior so you really don’t need anything else. Even low levels of dehydration (1% of bodyweight lost in sweat) cause big drops in performance and health. Having water on hand makes you less likely to drink other nonsense drinks.

Water improves flexibility and muscle tissue quality. It also lubricates joints and is good for your skin health and appearance. Water aids digestion and is essential for cellular level chemical processes. Drinking regularly will help prevent overeating cold water even burns a couple more calories each day (which does add up in the long run).

Performance wise, proper water intake will reduce cramping. In my experience, I have found that the key component for preventing my athletes from cramping during competition is not fancy sports supplements or magic foods.

The key is hydration. Colored urine is a no-no for any of my guys. Once they learn how effective this simple strategy is I don’t need to nag anymore. Bring water with you everywhere and drink constantly. More pee breaks are a decent tradeoff for the huge amount of benefits that water gives you. Bring a bottle around with you everywhere. Uh…the bottle is for water so that you are reminded to drink enough, the toilet situation you will need to figure out yourself. Water definitely makes the best healthy foods (well ok, it’s a drink) list.

Best healthy foods: Animals

I know, most people call it meat. But I want to be clear that you must really see that the meat is from a natural source not a processed one, and for that it’s helpful to think of meat as animals. If you are seeing a piece of chicken, you can imagine that it was once a living, breathing animal. This is harder to do when you see a chicken cracker or chicken sausage which are vastly inferior to the actually piece of chicken.

Get lean cuts of meat. Animal fat is saturated and gets you those dreaded heart complications if you eat too much of it. Lean cuts of any meat are really great sources of protein. Chicken, beef, pork, lamb, deer, ostrich. Yup all good. If possible go for the grass fed or “free range” meats because they have a better omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. But if that’s too expensive on inaccessible then its not the end of the world. Get the regular meat and make up the ratio via healthy omega-3 fats like fish oils and flax seeds.

Best healthy foods: Eggs

Top notch source of protein. Minimal saturated fat (only 1.5g per egg compare this with 10-15g per hamburger patty). I can’t believe there are even doctors and nutritionists that tell us 2 eggs per week are all out bodies can handle. Parents say “no eggs kids, they are dangerous” but let’s go to a fast food restaurant and eat jumbo sized triple patty burgers…hard to figure out, but happens all the time. Did you know that the saturated fat in one hamburger patty is equal to that in 8-10 eggs?

Personally I eat about 6 eggs on average per day. Whenever I take a blood test, my good cholesterol is high and my total cholesterol is at the low end of normal. Eggs… they’re fantastic!

Best healthy foods: Nuts

High in monounsaturated fat. This means less heart disease, faster metabolic rate and better testosterone levels. Nuts are also high in fiber and taste really good. Keep away from the fried, oiled or salted ones. Get them raw and toast them yourself. They taste great and are a great healthy snack. Different nuts have different ratios of fat types, so eat a variety of types. Macadamias, almonds, cashews, peanuts, pistachios – all good.

Natural peanut butter is included in this category. Get those from supermarkets where they grind the nuts for you on the spot. The slight increase in cost is probably worth it over the overly sugared, artificial fat laden regular peanut butter.

Best healthy foods: Olive oil

Also a great source of healthy fat. Olive oil raises good cholesterol, contains vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant, reduces risk of colon cancer, lowers the risk of gallstones and is a good salad dressing. What’s not to like.

Best healthy foods: Fruits and vegetables

Carbohydrates have gotten a bad rap since the days of the super low-carb Atkins diet which is still recommended by some personal trainers in Singapore and elsewhere. I believe Atkins is a better idea than a high refined carbohydrate diet but it is not a total health system.

Far more important than total carbohydrate intake however, is the type of carbohydrates that you eat.

Fruits and vegetables should be your main carbohydrate sources. Eat all kinds and all colors. Fruits and vegetables have huge amounts of micronutrients and anti-oxidants. Green vegetables also tend to have cancer preventing properties and the ability to help those who have high blood pressure. Fruits and vegetables also are high in fiber and taste really good as well.

Best healthy foods: Beans

Beans are great sources of fiber (benefits of fiber listed above). They also have protein but its vegetable protein which is inferior to animal protein. The list of good beans is long. Peas, lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, navy beans (there are many more types as well) are all good.

Best healthy foods Green Tea

Awesome antioxidants, manages to lower total cholesterol, improves good to bad cholesterol ratio, tastes decent, and has 0 calories. This, along with water (as mentioned above) should be your main drinks.

There we have it! Get big bunches of the above foods into your diet and watch your health levels improve fast.

Healthy Foods & Drinks

July 10th, 2012 Comments off

Food and drinks are necessary for survival and the gathering and preparation of foods and beverages consumes a large portion of our daily lives and consists of a large portion of the economy. People have become accustomed to easy access processed foods. Whereas the viewpoint of food was once “eat to live”, it is now “live to eat”.

Among other things, this change in philosophy seems to have correlated with the increased size of the American population. The ease at which food can be obtained, the multitude of food choices, the speed of both food production and preparation has all contributed to the growing waistline and declining nutritional values. As of 2010, approximately 66% of adults over age 20 are overweight to obese. Diabetes and childhood obesity are on the rise. Is it possible in this world of convenient fast meals and processed foods to live to eat without gaining weight, raising our cholesterol levels and increasing our risk to diabetes?

Healthy eating in the new century is easier than ever. Rather than turning to processed foods and drinks, buying high fat fast foods or eating sugary snacks people can use the convenience of today’s markets to make healthy food and drink choices. The trend toward healthy eating is spreading. Grocery stores now offer many fresh snacks, ready-made meals, energy drinks and even post easy to see nutritional information. Fast food chains are now cooking with healthier oils, eliminating saturate fats, offering lower calorie meals and offering non-sugary beverages in children’s meals. Farmers markets offering fresh local organic produce can be found in most cities. All of these changes have happened quickly so a review on what exactly is healthy eating and drinking may be needed for the benefits to take place throughout the population.

Many people are familiar with the U.S. guidelines for proper nutrition whether it is knowledge of the four basic food groups or familiarity with the food pyramid. Advances in research have led the U S Department of Agriculture and the U S Office of Health and Human Resources to update the guidelines for healthy eating. Now these guidelines will be updated every five years. New guidelines will be published April 20, 2010 based on the latest research. The old guidelines recommended four food groups and the amounts people consume have been changed. There are now six food groups and recommendations are made not based on specific serving sizes of each group, but on a nutrient dense plan. Recommendations are made for special groups including children, women, those over fifty and even vegetarians or other special diets.

The new food groups are: grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, meat and beans, oils and discretionary calories. Currently the departments suggest a healthy diet include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat or fat-free milk products. Include but in moderation lean meats, fish, beans, eggs and nuts. Limit saturated fats, cholesterol, salt and added sugars.

An all-around healthy diet includes nutrient dense foods from a variety of the food groups. Emphasis is on colorful vegetables and fruit, limit intake of animal proteins and use oils sparingly. Variety and individuality in diet is important. No two people have the same nutrient needs; each should examine their own eating plan and adjust accordingly.

Healthy recipes and super foods introduction

Eating healthy has become one of the most wondered and questioned topics these days. With all the bodybuilding magazines and health experts and fitness gurus it’s hard to separate the gold from the crap. Many so called diets out their are so unhealthy (not to mention BORING) and not help with your weight loss in the first place it’s no wonder people are having all the diseases and weight problems their having. Think about it this way. Throughout human history we NEVER had all the grains, soy, and junk food with the little need to move anything but our fingers that today’s modern man has. Our ancestors had only a few choices. Meat maybe a fruit or a tree nut then that they had to walk to get then… You guessed it MORE meat! The biggest difference is that NONE of the food then was processed like in today’s society it was all natural and grown right and contains one of the most important acids you body needs. It’s called Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) and can help you in your fitness goals. Meat came from grass fed animals that the hunters caught and the rest came from nuts fruits or MAYBE a few veggies from HEALTHY soil. I’m going to go into more on all this in a minute but before we begin I want to clear up a few lies real quick. First dieting is NOT the best way to look good or lose weight! Another one is that food needs to be processed and be altered. Again another no if that was the case we wouldn’t be here right now! It’s sad today how little it is known about eating right and building muscle and weight loss. With that said lets dive right into it!

Grass fed meat vs. Store bought meat

First off meat is a MUST for fitness! The difference between the two are what separates healthy people form unhealthy people. Store bought meat comes from grain fed animals that are poorly taken care of and not raised right. If your lucky enough to have access to a local store that sells meat from animals ONLY fed grass or it’s natural diet all year around then you would benefit paying the few extra dimes for it! Grass fed is not only healthier in EVERY single way but it also TASTES a lot better!!! You can mix and match the huge variety of meat with any kind or mixture of veggies and fruits you like. Don’t be afraid to experiment, but a great new program for healthy recipes I found has plenty of healthy meals and information you can use. You can check it out here. It’s called the metabolic cooking program and has hundreds of healthy recipes and meals packed in it. By making just this one change (assuming if your eating enough meat in the first place) you’ll not only get a leaner body but you’ll feel better while having tastier food! Sorry vegetarians but humans are carnivores and NEED meat becuase veggies have NO complete proteins (other than beans of course) or really as may significant health benefits as many think. For those of Read more…

So-Called Healthy Foods to Avoid at All Costs

September 18th, 2011 No comments

Healthy Food & Drink

Healthy weight loss is all about choosing the right diet, eating the right kinds of food to give your body the energy it requires and avoiding the foods that take us away from our goal of losing or maintaining a healthy weight. Just as there are some foods we should eat on a daily basis, there are some “healthy” foods we should avoid at all costs.

Fruit Juices—Fruit juices can wreak havoc on your healthy weight loss plan. You are essentially removing the vitamins, fiber, and other healthy benefits found in the skins and meat of the fruit, and getting a super dose of the sugary liquid. Think about how many apples you have to squeeze to get a glass of apple juice…let’s say 4-5. In drinking the juice you are consuming 4-5 apples worth of sugar. Even though it is from a healthy source, it is still sugar, and you threw away all the healthy benefits of the apple. And that’s if you drink straight, fresh-squeezed apple juice. The store-bought version, which adds insane amounts of sugar, is 10 times worse. Avoid the juice and just eat the whole apple instead with a glass of water.

]]>

Salad (toppings)—Salad in itself is very healthy, but the stuff we pile on top of the salad is where we can get into trouble. Take a perfectly healthy, low calorie salad and add bacon, piles of ham, egg, cheese and croutons, then smother it in salad dressing and you have devastated your healthy meal and your calorie intake. Stick to a nice variety of colorful vegetables in your salad, add a little ham or egg for protein, skip the cheese and croutons, and use olive oil or vinaigrette dressing. If you must use creamy dressing like ranch or blue cheese, keep it one the side, dip your fork in the dressing and then in your salad to get a little with each bite.

Whole-wheat products—Whole-wheat products are misleading. Most have nearly as much fat, carbohydrates and calories as regular white bread. They may or may not have more fiber than products made with white flour. Multi-grain products are just as bad. You want to look for whole-grain products for a healthy option.

Artificial sweetener—Your body cannot tell the difference between real sugar and artificial sweetener. Your body metabolizes them both the same way. And studies show that artificial sweetener can actually make your body crave more sugar, so you might subconsciously reach for foods that have high levels of sugar in them. Your best bet is to consume real sugar, but just reduce your sugar intake and keep it under control.

July 4th, 2011 No comments

Healthy Food & Drink

We’ve all done it before. We’re late. We’ve had a long day at work and there’s no food in the house, so we quickly dash through the supermarket like we’re contestants on Supermarket Sweep and throw whatever we need in the shopping cart and get out.

Well, it’s in these reckless binge runs that we can do our bodies harm by carelessly throwing whatever comes to hand first into our carts. We usually grab food items that easy to make and that tastes good. Unfortunately these items tend to be highly processed foods packed with sugar and sodium!

Now, if you’re like most people, you probably think you don’t have the time or money to spend buying healthy foods, or you think if you want to eat healthy you need to go to a special health food store to shop. Well, throw all those excuses out the window. Your local grocery store packs on average about 40,000 items and many of these are healthy alternatives to what’s in your shopping cart.

So get ready as we show you 10 ways to easily shop for healthy foods without breaking your budget or wasting time looking for a health food store.

Shop with a List! Don’t just wander aimlessly through the store. Know what you need and keep it neatly organized on a list you can easily read while shopping. Spending just a little time each day putting together this list will save you time later when you are actually in the grocery store. It also helps if you know your grocery store and categorize your items by the department they can be found in.This way you can avoid backtracking through the store when you realize your forgot something back in the dairy aisle. Keeping a list also prevents you from succumbing to the junk food aisle, saving you from unhealthy foods that are full of empty calories and sugar.
Don’t Shop on an Empty Stomach! You know this is a bad idea. Once you hit the aisles and your stomach starts growling, you’re liable to pick up anything that moves! By making sure you shop for food on a full stomach, you’ll eliminate buying foods that are bad for you as well as food you just don’t need. This saves your body and your wallet. If you can’t shop after a meal, make sure you at least drink a glass of water before you go in to help alleviate some of your hunger.
Buy Fresh Food! It really can’t get any simpler than this when it comes to eating healthy. By adding fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables to your list, you can easily add the needed vitamins and minerals you need to maintain a healthy diet. Take a look at what you’re currently buying. If more than 50 percent of your groceries are coming from a box or a can, you need to reevaluate your choices and head toward the fresh food.
Shop the Perimeter of the Store. When you’re searching for the freshest foods, it helps to stay out of the central aisles unless absolutely necessary. In your local grocery store, the perimeter of the store is where they Read more…

There are several diet ways that could lose your weight if you follow the right way as they are designed. but it does not mean that all foods fit into a diet is a healthy food, and it does not mean you should change your eating patterns to fit the rules of diet.

Rather than worry about following the diet, it’s better to think about a healthy lifestyle instead. Begin by learning to choose foods that are good for your health.

The closer the food is taken from the cycle of nature, then the food is better for you. Fresh fruits and vegetables have more vitamins and minerals, to retain the most nutritional value dont boiled them to long and be careful with sauces, they may be high in calories and to much fat is not good for you.

Apple is good for the body, but the apple pie really not good for the body. Serve seafood two or three times a week. Chicken meat and fish will be healthier on serve in the form of baked than fried

Drink water at least 2 liter a day and make it a habit, Drink milk and 100% fruit and juice as the main softdrink and limit sweet drinks. If you are bored with mineral water, try adding a few pieces of lemon to add a touch of flavor to your drink.

Do not forget to eat a variety of foods to get all the vitamins and minerals you need to be healthy.
